We wanted to update our customers on the End of Life Notice from Red Hat for versions of Satellite v5.5 or older.
After May 29 2015, as per the life cycle support policy for Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat will discontinue technical support services as well as software maintenance services for all Red Hat Satellite versions 5.5 and older. The listed versions will exit the existing Limited Maintenance Release phase. This means that new bug fixes, security errata, and product enhancements will no longer be provided for all Red Hat Satellite versions 5.5 and older. For further product support lifecycle information, please see the Red Hat Satellite product life cycle page.
Customers that are currently running satellite services on version 5.5 and older, are urged to upgrade to a supported version. For instructions on upgrading to Satellite 5.6 or 5.7, as well as details on several potential pitfalls to watch for during the upgrade, please see this Red Hat Customer Portal knowledge article. There are a lot of benefits to upgrading to Red Hat Satellite 5.6 or 5.7 such as a new database (Postgres SQL), new API methods, new reporting options, the ability to do live backups, along with many stability fixes.
