GovCloud Performancing Monitoring with AppDynamics

With frequent budget cuts and the release of the Government’s Cloud First Policy, agencies are rapidly moving to cost-effective hosting solutions that operate outside the boundaries of their existing data centers. With less control over the hosting infrastructure, agencies are transitioning to focus primarily on the performance, security and availability of their deployed applications. However, without owning the infrastructure, real-time application monitoring can seem like an impossible task to implement effectively.  To drastically reduce these hurdles, AppDynamics offers a unique & compelling solution for providing complete visibility into an application’s performance, user experience and issue remediation without any contingency on the hosting environment.

Taking a modern approach to Application Performance Monitoring (APM), AppDynamics provides administrators with performance metrics associated with auto-discovered Business Transactions.  These Business Transactions highlight individual user interactions, breaking down performance issues to the exact point of failure and can easily be viewed using an intuitive Flow Map.

Supporting multiple development languages including Java, .Net, PHP, NodeJs, Javascript, iOS, Android, SQL Databases, MongoDB and more, AppDynamics easily integrates with typically no modification to an existing code-base.  Once integrated, AppDynamics is capable of tracking an issue down to an individual line of code, database query or input data submitted by a user to the monitored application stack; this information can be viewed using the Call-Graph associated with the Business Transaction as shown below.

To assist in monitoring for potential security threats, AppDynamics also includes an alerting mechanism which can notify administrators of login attempts from unknown IP addresses and Geographical locations using the End-User Experience Monitor.  Furthermore, it provides a custom rule engine that can be used to flag events such as network activity exceeding normal thresholds (such as during a Denial of Service attack).
